How We Move Your Piano

1

Piano Assessment

Send us the make, model, and current location (which floor, how many stairs, doorway widths). We give you a firm quote and identify any special equipment we need.

2

Pre-Move Prep

Piano boards, four-wheel dollies, padded straps, and blanket wrap prepared. If legs need to be removed, we bring proper tools and hardware bags.

3

Load Day - Wrap & Disassemble

Full blanket wrap around the body. For grands and baby grands, legs and pedal assembly removed and individually wrapped. Every piece labeled.

4

Load & Transport

Piano loaded onto the board and rolled onto the truck. Strapped upright and secured against the wall so it does not shift in transit.

5

Delivery & Reassembly

Piano unloaded, rolled into position, legs and pedal assembly reattached, and blanket wrap removed. You get a working piano placed exactly where you want it.

Piano Moving FAQs

How much does it cost to move a piano in Kansas City?+

Upright pianos in the KC metro run $350-$650. Baby grands run $550-$900. Full grands run $700-$1,500. Concert grands are quoted individually. Price depends on stairs, doorways, floor level, and whether the destination is local (KC metro) or long-distance. All quotes are written in advance.

Can you move a grand piano up or down stairs?+

Yes - we do it regularly. Grands are moved on a piano board with 4-5 movers. For very tight staircases or upper-floor deliveries, we may recommend a specialty rigger or a hoist crane. We evaluate every situation during the quote.

Do you insure the piano during the move?+

Yes. Standard cargo insurance covers your piano. For very high-value pianos (Steinway, Bosendorfer, C. Bechstein, or any concert-grade instrument valued over $30,000), we can arrange a supplemental insurance rider - just mention the make and estimated value during the quote.

Will my piano need to be tuned after the move?+

Almost always yes. Any piano move - even a short local one - will knock the piano slightly out of tune due to the temperature and humidity change of moving between two buildings. Wait 2-4 weeks after the move to let the piano acclimate to the new space before tuning. We can recommend KC piano tuners on request.

How long does a piano move take?+

A local upright move (single-floor to single-floor) takes 60-90 minutes total. A baby grand or grand piano move with disassembly takes 2-3 hours. Multi-floor moves add 30-45 minutes. Long-distance piano moves are quoted flat-rate.

Can you move only a piano, or do we have to book a full move?+

We offer piano-only single-item moves. Just the piano, no other belongings. Same crew, same equipment, priced flat rather than hourly. Perfect if you are downsizing, gifting a piano, or bringing one home from a piano store.

Do you move digital pianos and organs too?+

Yes. Digital pianos (Yamaha Clavinova, Kawai CA, Roland V-Piano) and pipe organs are lighter but still specialty items. Priced similarly to uprights. Church organs and console pianos are quoted individually.

What time of year is best to move a piano in Kansas City?+

Fall and Spring are ideal - low humidity and moderate temperatures. Summer heat and winter cold both stress piano wood and strings. If you have to move in July or January, we do the piano move first thing in the morning to minimize temperature exposure during transit.
